There are a few mobile anesthesia solutions available that should be known before deciding to have a mobile anesthesiologist come to your dentist office. Mobile anesthesia is a great choice for dentists, as they do not have the proper equipment for deep anesthesiology.

Dentists used to have much fewer options and these included a local anesthetic and other anti-anxiety agents like nitrous oxide.

They could also perform IV sedation themselves using an ambulatory anesthesia provider or schedule procedures to be performed at hospitals or surgery centers. Many of these options were expensive or complicated and did not allow the dentist to focus fully on what they do best, which is dental procedures.

- Deep Anesthesia:

Deep anesthesia was once reserved for hospitals, but with the mobile anesthesia technology available today, a dentist can now have an anesthesiologist arrive at his or her dental office. This has a number of benefits. Here are some of the solutions available for mobile anesthesiology:

- Mobile SAF-D:

Mobile SAF-D is designed as a gentler approach to other dental anesthesia options available today. Mobile SAF-D is a new method that provides a deep sedation for a short period of time and claims to be ideal for crowns, extractions, fillings and root canals. Mobile SAF-D has the following benefits:

- reduces recovery time
- is cost effective
- is less invasive for patients

- How Does Mobile SAF-D Work?

Mobile SAF-D is a anesthesia solution employed by using a medication called Propofol. Mobile SAF-D is seen as a unique sedation method. Propofol is a good choice, because it can easily be titrated. In other words, Propofol is a great solution for the flexibility needed in mobile anesthesia solutions for a variety of patients.

- Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA)

This anesthesia is completed with an electronic propofol infusion pump that adjusts the infusion rate to maintain a constant propofol blood concentration. This will allow for the appropriate amount of propofol for every anesthesia situation and can range from nasal airway sedation to general anesthesia.

- Hospital Grade Dental Anesthesia:

This type of anesthesia can be performed with an IV or mask inhalation. After a patient is asleep, the mobile anesthesiologist will protect the airway with what is called a endotracheal tube combined with a throat pack. Then the mobile anesthesiologist will continue with general anesthesia by inhalation or total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA). In this way, a dentist can work uninterrupted and have full access to the mouth for any dental procedure.
