Psoriasis is a noncontagious skin disorder that usually appears as inflamed and swollen skin lesions covered with a silvery white scale. It has no cure, and not all treatments work for each individual. Often it is required to combine therapies in order to discover the regimen that is most effective.

Neem oil is probably the best product currently available for treating psoriasis. It moisturizes and protects the skin while it helps heal the lesions, scaling and irritation. Experiments and reports from patients with psoriasis have shown taking neem leaf orally, along with topical treatment of neem extracts and neem seed oil, seem to be at least as effective as more well known treatments such as coal tar and cortisone in treating psoriasis. Coal tar products smell very bad and are messy to use, and cortisone can make the skin thin with normal use. Neem does not do any of this.

In a case study a patient with severe psoriasis was given neem extract three times a day and the skin was treated with the extract mixed with coconut oil three times a day. The final result of the treatment was the complete disappearance of the signs of psoriasis. The study also produ
ced no noticeable side effects.

Applying neem to the skin is easy and inexpensive. Neem normally comes in a cream or oil, which helps to lubricate the skin. The smell is not unpleasant, and it will not stain your clothing. Neem is also antibacterial and anti-viral, therefore it helps prevent infections. There is no problem with using neem products for extended periods of time, so daily use is perfectly fine.

Salicylate is often used to treat psoriasis, but it is being found to have dangerous side effects if it gets absorbed into one's system (like through an open wound or sores). Here again, neem is the obvious choice for anyone worried about these kind of potentially harmful treatments.

Here is a popular way of using neem based products to treat psoriasis-

1. Add a few drops of neem oil to warm bath water and soak

2. Wash the skin with a gentle neem soap

3. Pat dry and apply a neem based lotion or cream to the irritated areas

4. Taking neem leaf orally often produces quicker results.

The key to any effective psoriasis treatment is consistency, so be regular with whatever regimen you try. Even though psoriasis has no cure as of yet, it can be controlled in most cases.
